In order to enhance the production competitiveness of the regional shipbuilding industry, South Korea is vigorously promoting the digital transformation of the project. On March 6, South Gyeongsang Road started the construction of "Small and medium-sized Shipyard Production Technology Innovation (DX) Center" in Mumian, mayor of Juji. After the completion and operation of the center, it will effectively boost the automation and digital transformation of small boat enterprises in the region, and promote the intelligent development of the whole process of shipbuilding production.
At present, South Korea's shipbuilding industry orders are sufficient, good development momentum, but the labor shortage problem is also increasingly prominent. In order to complete the construction and delivery of new ships on schedule, it is urgent to solve the shortage of labor force at the production line. Among them, it is crucial to prevent the loss of core employees such as skilled workers and attract new employees to join. Although the optimization of the visa system in South Korea has improved the supply situation of foreign workers, the transformation of the industrial ecosystem as soon as possible to ensure the production competitiveness is still needed.
The production technology Innovation Center for small and medium-sized shipyards in South Gyeongsang Province is the key infrastructure to solve these problems. The center will be completed and put into operation in April 2026, which will not only solve the problem of labor shortage in the front line of small and medium-sized shipping enterprises, but also reduce costs, improve production efficiency, and promote the intelligent transformation of the shipping enterprises.
The center covers an area of 6,381 square meters, with a construction area of 4,240 square meters. One research building and one experimental building will be built. With a total investment of 25 billion won (about 125 million yuan), including 10 billion won in public funding, the project will be promoted by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Juji City and the Korea Small and Medium Shipbuilding Research Institute (RIMS).
To realize ship production automation and digital transformation, the center will introduce 22 kinds of test bench equipment and software (S / W), especially plans to introduce 14 can be applied to welding, coating, testing and other main engineering empirical equipment, and two kinds of production technology innovation software, 6 kinds of quality and performance evaluation equipment, from many aspects support small and medium-sized shipyards to optimize the production process, enhance competitiveness.
In addition, in order to maximize the synergistic effect of the production technology innovation center, South Gyeongsang Road will also promote the "small and medium-sized shipbuilding intelligent production innovation Assistance project". The project will focus on small and medium-sized shipyards and supporting enterprises to promote the digital transformation technology of the production process. At the same time, in order to develop the production engineering technology of the whole cycle of ship construction, South Gyeongsang Road also plans to actively promote the follow-up R & D (R & D) public recruitment projects in the shipbuilding field.
Previously, South Gyeongsang Road has been committed to improving the production efficiency of the shipyard and its internal and external cooperative companies (subcontracting enterprises) through the "Shipbuilding Industry Production Engineering Innovation and Technical Assistance Project". The project aims to enhance the technological competitiveness of regional small-boat companies by introducing intelligent and automated systems, improving risk factors in the working environment, preventing safety accidents, and supporting the development of products using the latest technologies.
The above measures in South Gyeongsang Province are part of the specific measures of the New Generation Leading Strategy issued by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Resources in November 2023.
Shi Xuxi, chief of the main industry in South Gyeongsang Province, said: " The construction of a production technology innovation center for small and medium-sized shipyards will be able to ensure the competitiveness of small and medium-sized shipyards
