Zheng Qinghua, Chen Dake, Song Junqiang, Wang Juncheng, Jian Zhimin, Luo Bing, Li Weilin, Chen Cixiang, Zhang Qingwen, Lou Yongqi, Xun Zhenglai and Zhou Ning jointly delivered putters for the "Tongji".

"Tongji" is a 2,000-ton new generation of green, silent and intelligent comprehensive scientific research ship, developed and designed by China Ship Research and Design Center, integrating marine geology, marine chemistry, marine biology and other scientific research investigations, as well as scientific research, talent training, science education and cultural inheritance. The "Tongji" started construction in April 2024, was launched in January this year, and completed comprehensive sea trials in May.

"Tongji" has a total length of 81.5 meters, a width of 15 meters, a depth of 6.9 meters, a maximum speed of 16 knots, a cruising range of 8,000 nautical miles, a crew of 45 people, a self-sustaining capacity of 35 days, and a domestic full-rotation electric propulsion system, which is suitable for unlimited navigation areas (except ice areas), and is the first marine-grade comprehensive scientific research ship in China to obtain the four intelligent symbols of the China Classification Society (CCS) intelligent ship specification i-ship (R1, No, E, I). The intelligent energy efficiency management and intelligent integration platform has built a full-link closed-loop system of "perception-decision-collaboration-control".

"Tongji" has all-round intelligent perception capabilities, which can use a variety of sensors to perceive the surrounding environment and form a "air-sea-seabed" three-dimensional detection network; It has intelligent decision support capabilities, equipped with advanced shipboard data centers and intelligent decision support systems, and automatically generates or optimizes scientific research routes and operation plans. It has efficient collaborative communication capabilities to realize real-time two-way transmission of shipboard data with shore-based command centers and cooperative scientific research institutions. It has integrated intelligent control capabilities, realizing automatic route planning, adaptive speed optimization, intelligent collision avoidance, high-precision dynamic positioning and other functions, ensuring safe and efficient navigation, significantly improving navigation efficiency, reducing fuel consumption, and saving operating costs.

As a "sea campus" integrating cutting-edge technology and multidisciplinary collaboration, the "Tongji" will bring teachers and students an immersive learning experience from the classroom to the "mobile laboratory". The ship can be modularly equipped with a variety of containerized shipboard laboratories, operational ROVs (underwater remote control robots), unmanned aerial vehicles, unmanned boats and other mobile and fixed observation node ad hoc network equipment, and students can directly participate in marine geological exploration, marine ecological sampling, equipment testing and other tasks. This mode of "sailing, experimenting, and analyzing" transforms theoretical learning into actionable practical topics and greatly improves the depth of learning.

The ship is divided into 460 square meters of deck operation area, 320 square meters of laboratory, stepped classrooms, conference areas and other spaces, which can accommodate multidisciplinary teams to collaborate at the same time. During a scientific expedition voyage, students can simultaneously complete tasks such as seabed topography surveying and mapping (geology), water pollutant monitoring (environmental science), and ROV maintenance (engineering), breaking the barriers of traditional disciplines.

In terms of ship power, the ship adopts an advanced DC busbar + lithium iron phosphate battery pack hybrid system, which reduces energy consumption by about 8% compared with similar scientific research ships. The ship's intelligent energy efficiency system and navigation intelligent planning function can significantly improve navigation efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and save operating costs.

The ship has all-weather operation capabilities, can carry operational ROVs, multiple containerized shipboard laboratories and various types of unmanned systems, and has the functions of comprehensive ad hoc network of mobile observation nodes and fixed observation nodes, which can meet the comprehensive scientific investigation tasks of marine geology and geophysics, physical ocean, marine chemistry, marine biology, atmospheric environment, etc., and carry out comprehensive investigation of seabed topography and landform, sediment and structure, marine environment and ecology, and marine survey equipment testing, etc., and can also undertake fault detection, maintenance, Offshore engineering tasks such as laying and post-burial, submarine route survey and scanning, and wind power engineering survey.

When sailing in open water, the ship can switch the ship's navigation control to the autonomous navigation system, gain insight into the water situation with the help of advanced sensing equipment, obtain various navigation environment information, and process this information to form decision-making actions, according to the degree of risk encountered, autonomously avoid collisions and drive automatically, greatly reduce the work pressure of the crew and reduce the risk of accidents caused by human error; It can also achieve real-time, efficient information interaction and precise control between ships and shores through advanced sensors, communication networks, and powerful artificial algorithms. At the shore end, professional operators use the ship's 5G and other high-speed communication networks to remotely control the ship's navigation direction, speed, rudder angle and other parameters, and issue accurate instructions to ensure that the ship sails safely and stably in complex and changeable waters.

On the basis of the 2,000-ton ship platform, the ship has designed a deck operating area of 460 square meters, a laboratory area of 320 square meters, a living cabin of 10.2 square meters per capita and a total of more than 100 square meters of conference area, staircase classroom, leisure area, fitness area, etc., to achieve the operating capacity of a 3,000-ton scientific research ship with a small volume.

The exterior and interior design of the School of Design and Creativity of Tongji University is also a highlight of the "Tongji". The appearance of the hull is elegant and light, like a fashionable modern building, and the bright colors, fresh decorations, and personalized customization of the ship make people feel comfortable and comfortable, just like "community" and "home". The cabin is equipped with a spacious and bright dining room, leisure area and fitness space, and introduces natural light design to alleviate the oppressive feeling caused by the long-term closed environment. The entire ship adopts high-efficiency sound insulation materials and vibration dampening systems, which significantly reduce the impact of cabin noise on the living area. The working area automatically adjusts the temperature, humidity, and lighting brightness to ensure a comfortable working environment. The whole ship is covered with high-speed satellite networks, supporting high-definition video calls between teachers and students and their families.

After delivery, the "Tongji" will be used for scientific expedition voyages, offshore engineering construction tasks and student maritime internships of Tongji University and other units, providing equipment support for marine scientific research and the training of sea-related professionals.

Relying on the "Tongji", Tongji University will focus on the two long-term academic goals of "Tropical Drive of Climate Evolution" and "Geological Evolution of the Western Pacific", consolidate the thickness of basic research, and create a "Chinese school" of earth system scientific research; gather the sea-related forces of the university's surveying and mapping, civil engineering, environment, electronic and information engineering and machinery and other disciplines to jointly carry out research on marine exploration technology, and realize the transformation from basic research to the combination of science and technology; cultivate more compound innovative talents with a solid grasp of the basic knowledge of ocean and related disciplines, innovative thinking, international vision and strong sense of social responsibility, and then further enhance the strength of discipline development on this basis.
